The Spring Rush is coming! Spring is the “Grand Opening” of your community each year! If you hold off until the first 80-degree day to start thinking about your pool, then you are already too late!

Here is a simple checklist to help you be a proactive board looking after the association’s money and avoid homeowner complaints. This will help you be sure your curb appeal stays high and your liability low.

  • Check your landscape contract. Is your vendor adhering to the spring cleanup scope in their contract? Such as mulching, edging, and pruning?
  • Check your irrigation now! Finding a leak or broken pipe in April or May is a headache, but in July, it will kill your landscape!
  • Look for any shrubs or trees that didn’t make it through winter. Replacing them now can eliminate a safety hazard!
  • Pool Permit Check- Be sure your health department permits are renewed on time. There may be repairs needed before they grant that permit! Get them done now rather than when you are supposed to open the pool.
  • Get with your pool vendor and be sure you are on the same page for the pool opening. Are the pumps running? Is the pH balanced?
  • Check the pool furniture for cracks, make sure the self-closing gates are working right, etc.
  • Be ready for violations with residents. As the weather gets warm, people are out more, causing potential violations. Send a “Spring Reminder” in a newsletter or eBlast, reminding residents about rules regarding car washing, pressure washing, lawn care, exterior work, etc. Reminders are easier than violations and fines!
