Let’s start off with a bit about me!

After my time in the Air Force, I entered the IT world. I spent a number of years working for large corporations in various tech-sector roles. In the very early 2000’s, I moved back home and began working in the family HOA Management business in California.

I spent nearly 15 years learning and growing, and eventually took over the company when my mother retired. California is a unique animal in the HOA kingdom! It is likely the most heavily regulated state, though Florida and Nevada are close seconds. A while back, my family and I relocated to the East Coast, where I joined one of the largest HOA management companies in the US. I have served as Branch President there for a number of years.

In all this time serving communities, I understand that professionally managed services aren’t always the path for some Associations. Could be due to size, costs, or other variables. I wanted to help these communities with some of the guidance they don’t get without a manager. These communities are underserved yet have the same volunteer needs as managed properties. I believe in educating everyone who is willing to donate their time to serve their communities. Education protects everyone and helps the whole industry elevate!

This is why I started HOA BluePrint. I wanted to create a resource for those in self-managed communities and those Board Members who just want to learn more and educate themselves to help make more informed decisions for their community. Your time serving your community shouldn’t feel like a second job. For that reason, I have created a number of tools to assist you on your journey. You can browse those tools and download the free First 7 Day Board Handout. I created this as a free guide for new Board Members to help them understand their Association and its governance. From here, you can build a solid library of guides and help to serve your community.

I do want to caution self-managed Boards that if the work is becoming too overwhelming, they should seek out professional services, if feasible. There are serious repercussions to ill-informed or negligent decisions. Don’t let your exhaustion be your downfall.
